Vision and Values

The Chair of Mineral Processing is located at the Department Mineral Resources Engineering at the Montanuniversitaet Leoben. It is the center for dry and wet performed processes of primary and secondary resources to marketable products by processed-technology such as physical, physical-chemical and chemical methods that includes in particular the comminution, screening, sorting, drainage, dust collecting, agglomeration and the leaching as well as the connected preparing, attendant and subsequent exercises to the named methods above.

We see our main work in the transfer of knowledge, the teaching and the increase of knowledge through research.

We educate our young academics and turn them into world-wide demanded resource engineers which will find a wide variety of challenging and responsible activities in resource winning and resource processing industries, in plant engineering, research and teaching with service providers as well as with administration. Good contact to our students is important to us. We try to defer to the wishes of our students and we are proud to transfer our knowledge to the next generation of resource engineers and to be able to accompany them on a part of their journey. It is a great pleasure to communicate our knowledge and we take time to work for a practical, engineer-oriented teaching on a high level with experts for mineral processing in the industry supporting us. We promote our students in multifarious ways and ask for commitment, participation, teamwork, curiosity and the willingness deliver an excellent performance.

We offer our graduates and the employees in our industry the possibility of in-service training and seminars in cooperation with the Austrian Mining Association and the Institute for Industrial Liaisons at the Montanuniversitaet Leoben.

These events are well known across the country, inquired about and gladly visited.

Our laboratory scaled infrastructure of processing aggregates and measurement equipment allows us to work in research and development in broad fields.

The newly-created Raw Materials Innovation Center (IZR) has enough space for this mainly experimental oriented work. The work with and on resources is our core competence and our passion. It is loud, dusty and sometimes smelly. The compliance with safety regulation is important to us.

The areas of research and work are going to fit on the one hand to the manifold challenges, on the other hand to the fields of interest from our academic colleagues.

Currently, the exhaustive list contains the testing of processing from primary and secondary raw materials, the further development of the technical processes, on the determination of principles for the choice of the machines and their dimensioning, the processing of the fine and finest grain, the interface operated processing procedures, the magnetic separation, the process development and optimization, the sampling and homogenization of the product stream, the waste recovery and the prevention of accidents.

By giving lectures at congresses and expert conferences, as well as publications in domestic and international expert magazines and patents, we provide our knowledge for the general public’s disposal.

The core team in the administration as well as the lab and technical department fulfill the maintenance of the long term chair and the laboratory operation very well. Perspective and the opportunity of professional development are offered and help to avoid fluctuation. By the consequent education of physical laborants we contribute to the continuance of this varied profession and give young people the perspective for a satisfied professional life. For our young scientifically working staff, we offer the opportunity of qualification by dissertation in industry and relevant tips for habilitation as a baseline for their career in industry and university. External PhD students are deepening the contact between industry and university.

We, the mineral processing engineers from Leoben, keep good company to each other, we are an increasing team, where everybody has his room and everyone knows about the importance of his producing as a part of the big picture. That is one of the great secrets of our success.
